Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Visit to the US: Key Meetings with Top Tech CEOs

New York: On the second day of his three-day visit to the US, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held significant discussions with top tech industry leaders, spanning sectors such as semiconductors, electronics, and biotechnology. These meetings aimed to explore India’s potential and its opportunities for global investments and partnerships.

The CEO roundtable brought together influential figures, including Shantanu Narayen, Chairman, President, and CEO of Adobe; Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google; Arvind Krishna, CEO of IBM; Lisa Su, Chair and CEO of AMD; and Noubar Afeyan, Chairman of Moderna.

Following the meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared his reflections on social media, stating, “Had a productive roundtable with tech CEOs in New York, discussing technology, innovation, and India’s advancements in these fields. It was heartening to see the optimism towards India’s future.”

In addition to his discussions with industry leaders, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with US President Joe Biden. The two leaders commended the progress in building resilient, secure, and sustainable semiconductor supply chains. A key highlight of the collaboration is GlobalFoundries’ establishment of the GF Kolkata Power Center in India, which is expected to boost research and development in chip manufacturing and strengthen ties between India and the US.

According to a joint fact sheet released by the White House, both nations are deepening their cooperation on emerging technologies. One notable development is IBM’s partnership with the Indian government, which will enable IBM’s Watson platform to operate on India’s Airawat Supercomputer. This collaboration is poised to drive innovation in artificial intelligence and expand research in advanced semiconductor processors, further enhancing India’s National Quantum Mission.

The leaders also acknowledged the progress made since the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in November 2023 between the US Commerce Department and India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry. This MoU, part of the Innovation Handshake initiative, aims to foster innovation ecosystems in both countries. So far, two industry roundtables have been held, bringing together startups, venture capitalists, corporate investors, and government officials to boost investment in innovation.

On Sunday, PM Modi addressed a massive gathering of the Indian diaspora in New York, where thousands of attendees from across the US came together to hear his speech.

Earlier, on the first day of his visit, Prime Minister Modi participated in the Quad Leaders’ Summit in Wilmington, Delaware, hosted by President Biden. The Quad—India, the US, Japan, and Australia—has become an essential forum for promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region. While the US hosted the 2024 summit, India is set to host the next Quad Summit in 2025.

On the final day of his visit, PM Modi is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the Summit of the Future at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The summit, themed ‘Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow,’ will witness the participation of numerous global leaders. Additionally, PM Modi is expected to hold bilateral meetings with various world leaders before concluding his visit and returning to India.
